Functional Testing

Functional testing explores the health status of the individual by measuring nutritional imbalances and/or pathogens that may be present and contributing to poor health. If appropriate, recommendations will be provided at your Report of Findings Call and used to help formulate your nutritional plan. Tests are based on saliva, blood, urine and stools. Some tests are free via your GP so it is worth asking first.

Some of the most frequently used functional tests include:

  • Allergy/intolerance Testing – IgE & IgG testing for common reactions to dairy, grain, gluten, additives, preservatives, spices, moulds and other inhalants.

  • Gluten Sensitivity –IgE coeliac disease screening, or gluten sensitivity (gluten related disorders can exist without having coeliac disease).

  • Menopause Profile – for checking balance and levels of hormones.

  • Female Hormone Profile – Tests measure the levels of progesterone and oestrogen to identify any imbalances which could be influencing the reproductive cycle. This could be the root cause of PMS, infertility and menstrual irregularity as well as menopause symptoms. Testosterone levels can also be measured which can be raised in PCOS.

  • Male Hormones – Measures testosterone levels indicating any hormonal imbalances.

  • Thyroid Screen – Thyroid hormones regulate the body’s metabolism, with any imbalances affecting almost every metabolic process. This test helps the early detection of thyroid disease by measuring thyroid hormones (TSH, free T4, free T3) and thyroid antibodies.

  • Adrenal Stress Profile – For unexplained energy issues, this test assesses the adrenal hormones over a day to determine its ability to react to stress.

  • Stool analysis -This comprehensive analysis evaluates digestion, metabolism and absorption of nutrients, gut flora, parasites, yeasts, pathogenic bacteria and inflammation to help determine the root cause of bloating, gas, indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and constipation.
